2009 Ford Flex

Quick Facts:
  • Capless fuel filler saves time and eliminates the conventional gas cap.
  • Roof can be painted white or silver, regardless of the color for the rest of the car.
  • Four glass panels in the roof are available in some models.
  • Small refrigerator between middle seats keeps beverages cool.

Love it or hate it, the styling of the new 2009 Ford Flex is definitely different.

Even Ford admits that not everyone will fall in love with the Flex at first sight.

“At first we were uncomfortable with the way Flex could polarize, but its ability to compel an opinion, good or bad, was fascinating. It inspired us forward with courage to create a breakthrough design,” said Peter Horbury, the executive director for Design for the Americas.

Inside, the crossover has room for seven people. And those passengers can set the mood by programming an array of interior lights with seven different colors.

Look up in some models and you'll see four glass panels that Ford calls the "Vista Roof."

When the time comes for a refreshing beverage, the Flex has a little refrigerator between the second-row seats. There's enough room in the refrigerator for seven 12-ounce cans.

The quirky features continue on the outside where you'll notice that there is no gas cap on the Flex. Instead, the car uses Ford's "EasyFuel" capless fuel filler. Filling up becomes faster, and Ford says the system provides a better seal than conventional caps.

Whether it's the coolest people-mover on the road, or just a little odd, the Flex will be in Ford showrooms starting this summer.
