1999-2009: A Decade Of Dreadful Oscar Duds
Awards Shows Offer Feast Of Fashion Foibles
Hollywood's elite turn out in decadent droves for the Oscars, but not all that glitters is glamorous.
Gowns made entirely of sequins can leave a sour taste in any fashionista's mouth, and no star is immune to a fashion flop. "Best" winners, like Angelina Jolie in 2000, can still become leading ladies in the worst-dressed pantheon.Yet, many of the most amusing blunders come from those clinging to the fragile fringe of fame. Lesser-known names, like Lauren Hutton and Sally Kirkland, can garner the fickle favor of flash-bulbs by donning disastrous duds. Between wonky, crotch-hovering fanny packs and barely-there pasties on a then-65-year-old lady, the red carpet has seen its fair share of cries for attention.Women aren't the only victims of the searing fashion critique, however, and even Oscar veterans make missteps. Whether it's Robin Williams in hot pink -- yes, hot pink -- or Phillip Seymour Hoffman using a knit cap to cover a messy mane, men can make some fantastic fashion foibles. The point, of course, is that even the most glamorous can make gaffs, and that can be a glittering gift to the rest of us.
