Kate B. Comiskey, 24, of Bloomington, was killed when a vehicle struck the car she was driving head-on, police said.

Police said a vehicle driven by Bryan M. Gooldy, 45, of Bloomington, crossed the centerline of Walnut Street in Bloomington and crashed into Comiskey's car.

Comiskey, an Indiana University graduate, was in her second year as a ninth-grade English teacher at Indian Creek High School in Trafalgar, RTV6's Jennifer Carmack reported.

Comiskey was on her way to school when the crash happened at about 7 a.m.

"A lot of people were crying and people went home early," student Leah Roberts said. "Just the reaction on people's faces ... everybody loved her. Everybody had tears in their eyes for her."

A memorial was set up outside of Comiskey's classroom where students are expressing their feelings for the popular teacher.

"She was loved by everybody here, and she's going to be sadly missed and will be very difficult to replace. We're so sorry for this loss," school principal Bob Duke said.

Six area ministers were called to the school to counsel people there Tuesday, and grief counselors will be available for the rest of the week, Carmack reported.

"In the short time that I had known her, she was a big part of my life. She made me think of good things in life," Roberts said.

Authorities said that minutes before the crash, a motorist contacted authorities to report a vehicle weaving in and out of its lane while traveling along Indiana 37. Police said they later determined that the weaving vehicle was Gooldy's.

Gooldy was taken to Bloomington Hospital, where he was treated for unspecified injuries. Information on his condition wasn't available.

Police said they were investigating the crash and that results of toxicology tests were pending.
