Rama, ON -- (Sports Network) - Challenger Marvin Sonsona took the WBO junior bantamweight belt away from Jose Lopez with a unanimous decision Friday.

Sonsona (14-0, 12 KOs) didn't win by KO like his last 12 fights, but won on the scorecards 114-111, 115-110 and 116-109. The No. 6 contender, of the Philippines, was in his first career title fight.

Lopez (39-8-2, 32 KOs) was making his first defense of the title he won this past March against Pramuansak Posuwan in a bout for the vacant WBO belt. He had previously lost his first four WBO title fights.
