INDIANAPOLIS -- City workers will focus on clearing overgrowth along an Indianapolis greenway after numerous complaints.Walkers, bicyclists and neighbors told Call 6's Rafael Sanchez last month that trees, shrubs and weeds had taken over parts of the Fall Creek Greenway between 38th and 56th streets.Sanchez brought the problem to the attention of Indy Parks, which maintains the city's 59 miles of trails. Workers assessed the situation and were out on Friday trimming back foliage.
"We hope our response is fast enough, and doesn't create a problem with someone being hurt. We do what we can," said Leslie Marks, a senior horticulture technician.Officials said one of the culprit plants is the invasive, fast-to-grow honeysuckle, which has clogged the trail in parts. They will use a massive lawn mower-type machine to cut back the bushes. The Monon Trail, the city's most popular greenway, is the only trail with a dedicated team to handle daily maintenance issues.More Information: Indy Parks Greenway Information
