New Jersey's Cash For Appliances program is set to launch April 1 and run through April 30, or until funding runs out.

The program will allow consumers to get rebates when they purchase new, more energy-efficient appliances for their home.

Eligible appliances in New Jersey include:

  • Refrigerators - $75-$100
  • Clothes washers - $35
  • Dishwashers - $25-$50

Compact dishwashers and refrigerators are not eligible for rebates.

Each appliance comes with additional requirements and specifications. For more information on each appliance, visit the New Jersey Clean Energy Program Web site.

Many retailers will provide customers with an instant rebate at the register when they purchase the eligible products, so those customers will not have to submit a rebate application. Customers purchasing at other retailers will submit their rebate by mail.

The program is one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that are being set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.

New Jersey will receive about $8.3 million of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Additionally, a $50 rebate is offered to New Jersey residents who recycle their old, working refrigerators or freezers through New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. Customers taking advantage of the ARRA incentives on new refrigerators may also take advantage of this program.

For more information on the program, contact the New Jersey Clean Energy Program at 866-657-6278.
