NCAA Game Summary - UNC-Wilmington At Appalachian State

(Sports Network) - Kellen Brand made all 14 of his free-throw attempts and finished the night with 20 points, as the Appalachian State Mountaineers downed the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, 79-68, in non-conference play at the Holmes Center.

Donald Sims added 18 points for the ASU (1-0), while Isaac Butts contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.

John Fields led UNCW (0-1) with a game-high 21 points, to go with seven rebounds. Darryl Felder turned in 12 points and five helpers off the bench, while Johnny Wolf netted 11 points.

The Mountaineers shot 60.9 percent from the floor and went 15-of-18 at the charity stripe in the first half, opening a 44-31 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, ASU hit on 18-of-24 chances at the foul line, as it hung on for the 11-point win.

On the night, the Mountaineers shot 50.0 percent from the floor, meanwhile, the Seahawks only hit on 39.7 percent of their field goals.
