Detroit, MI -- (Sports Network) - Chase Simon scored 22 points to lead the Detroit Titans to an 86-80 win over the Western Michigan Broncos in a non- league showdown at Calihan Hall.

Eli Holman added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Titans (1-1), while Woody Payne and Xavier Keeling netted 11 and 10 points, respectively.

David Kool (0-1) led the way for WMU, scoring 29 points and dishing out five assists in a losing effort. Flenard Whitfield and Martelle McLemore also got involved, scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively, before each fouled out.

Detroit stormed out of the locker room in the first half, knocking down 6- of-14 three-point attempts to take a 39-34 lead at the break.

The Titans kept the pressure on in the second stanza, shooting 54.2 percent from the floor to seal the six-point win.

Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in the contest as the Titans outscored the Broncos 33-9 from long distance. That difference helped to offset 18 turnovers and just 23-of-39 shooting at the free-throw line by the home team.
