NCAA Game Summary - Jacksonville At Florida

POSTED: 11:19 pm EDT March 18, 2009

(Sports Network) - Nick Calathes scored 19 points to lead the Florida Gators to a convincing, 84-62 victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins in first round action of the NIT at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

Calathes also posted six assists and six rebounds for Florida (24-10), which will now host another instate rival in the second round, as the Miami-Florida Hurricanes will come to the O'Connell Center. Chandler Parsons posted a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Alex Tyus tallied 13 points. Erving Walker and Dan Werner registered 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.

Lehmon Colbert netted 11 points for Jacksonville (18-14), while Marcus Allen chipped in 10 points in the losing effort.

The Gators went into the break with a commanding 49-28 lead, thanks to a sizzling 63.3 percent shooting effort from the floor, which included a 6-of-9 clip from behind the arc.

Florida turned up its defensive play in the second frame, holding Jacksonville to a meager 35.5 percent shooting display, en route to the 22-point victory.

The Gators shot a strong 56.1 percent from the field in the contest, but it was the team's play at the other end of the floor that was impressive, as Florida limited the Dolphins to just 36.8 percent shooting from the field, and that included a poor 6-of-23 clip from long range.
