Indiana (2-1) Vs. Boston University (0-3)
GAME NOTES: The Puerto Rico Tip-Off continues this evening, as the Boston University Terriers challenge the Indiana Hoosiers in the consolation round in San Juan. The winner of this game will have the right to play for third place against either Georgia Tech or Georgia Mason.
The Terriers have yet to deliver first-year head coach Pat Chambers his first win, as they have gone 0-3 to begin the 2009-10 campaign. Most recently, BU hung with Kansas State, but just didn't have enough in an 80-70 setback in last night's first-round action. The Terriers haven't dropped any of their games by over 10 points, so they aren't as bad as their record may appear.
As for Indiana, it jumped out to a 2-0 start and looked like a much improved team in Tom Crean's second go-around in charge of the program. However, the Hoosiers' fast beginning was brought to an abrupt end last night, as they ran into a talented Ole Miss club, which came away with a 89-71 victory.
The Hoosiers have a leg up on the Terriers in the all-time series, as they defeated BU in their only meeting during the first round of the 1991 Indiana Classic.
The Hoosiers just couldn't keep up with Ole Miss and its potent attack, allowing the Rebels to shoot an efficient 51.5 percent from the floor in a loss last night. Indiana made 41.2 percent of its attempts from the field and went a paltry 12-of-27 at the foul line, in addition to committing 21 turnovers. It was clearly the worst performance of the campaign for Indiana, which is still making good on 47.0 percent its field goal tries after three games. Maurice Creek paced the team in the setback with 18 points and he heads the squad with 16.3 ppg for the season. Verdell Jones III, who tallied 17 points last night, is next at 13.0 ppg and Christian Watford rounds out the double-digit scorers with 12.0 ppg.
The Terriers shot a sub par 35.8 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 16 times in a loss to KSU last night. Poor shooting and turnovers have plagued BU this season, as the team is hitting on just 34.7 percent from the field, while committing 18.7 turnovers per game. John Holland has been a bright spot early on for BU, as he his averaging 20.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Last night, he tallied 20 points, which was second on the team to Tyler Morris' 21 points. Morris has proven to be an effective scorer as well, netting 15.3 ppg on the campaign.
Indiana is an up-and-coming team and Crean will have this group ready to rebound and defeat BU this evening.
