(Sports Network) - Jeffrey Taylor scored 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds as he helped the Vanderbilt Commodores to a narrow 72-70 win over the Saint Mary's Gaels in non-conference action at McKeon Pavilion.

Also scoring in double figures for the Commodores (2-0) were Jermaine Beal and Andre Walker with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Gaels (2-1) were paced by Omar Samhan with a huge double-double consisting of 25 points and 18 rebounds, both of which were game highs. Matthew Dellavedova chipped in 19 points and seven assists, followed by Mickey McConnell with 12 points on the night.

Vandy shot an even 50 percent from the field and also converted 10-of-13 at the free-throw line, yet led by just a single point at the break, 40-39.

In the second half the lead for the Commodores reached as high as 14 points, but the squad struggled on offense at times and had to hold on for the two- point victory.

SMC went from shooting 4-of-8 beyond the arc in the first half to a mere 3- of-11 out on the perimeter after the intermission.
