Wichita St. Hoops Coach Marshall Agrees To One-Year Extension

POSTED: 7:51 pm EDT April 27, 2009

(Sports Network) - Wichita State head men's basketball coach Gregg Marshall has agreed to a one-year extension, running his contract through 2015.

Marshall, who was named the school's head coach in April 2007, guided the Shockers to an 11-20 mark in his first season. Wichita State improved to 17-17 this past season and won 14 home games -- the school's most since 1987. The Shockers additionally advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2006, playing in the College Basketball Invitational.

"I am extremely pleased to be extending Gregg Marshall's contract through 2015," Wichita State athletics director Eric Sexton said. "He has done a tremendous job in leading our men's basketball program, and continues to direct it toward excellence."

Prior to going to Wichita State, Marshall spent nine years as head coach at Winthrop, where he became the Big South's all-time winningest coach and was named the conference coach of the year four times.
