(Sports Network) - Andy Schmitt completed 58-of-80 passes for 516 yards and five touchdowns, as the Eastern Michigan Eagles outlasted the Central Michigan Chippewas, 56-52, in a Mid-American Conference shootout at Rynearson Stadium.

Tyler Jones caught 23 passes for 170 yards for EMU (3-9, 2-6 MAC). Josh Leduc finished with eight catches for 81 yards and two TDs in the win.

Dan LeFevour threw for 378 yards and four TDs for CMU (8-4, 6-2). Antonio Brown caught seven passes for 172 yards and was one of four Chippewas to catch a touchdown pass. Ontario Sneed paced the ground game with 97 yards and a score.

The Eagles drove 70 yards in 14 plays on their opening possession, and Schmitt found the end zone on an eight-yard run.

Later in the quarter, they took a 14-0 lead on a five-yard touchdown pass from Schmitt to Leduc, capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive.

CMU began to get it going toward the end of the first quarter. LeFevour scored on a three-yard run, which was set up by a 93-yard completion to Antonio Brown on the previous play.

The Eagles went three-and-out on their next possession, and CMU returned the punt to the EMU 17. Two plays later, the Chippewas tied the score at 14 on a 15-yard touchdown pass from LeFevour to Joe Bockheim.

However, EMU answered right back with another scoring drive, as Schmitt found Dontayo Gage for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Less than two minutes later, EMU took a 28-14 lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Schmitt to DeAnthony White. The teams traded touchdown passes back and forth for the rest of the half.

LeFevour answered with an eight-yard scoring strike to Kito Poblah to make it a 28-21 game with 7:49 remaining in the half.

On EMU's next possession, Schmitt tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Priest.

Once again, the Chippewas responded right back. This time, it was LeFevour finding Brown for a 49-yard touchdown pass.

The back and forth scoring continued on EMU's next possession, as Schmitt connected with Leduc for a 17-yard scoring strike to extend the Eagles' lead to 42-28 with 59 seconds remaining in the half.

But CMU put together another quick scoring drive, and LeFevour hooked up with Bryan Anderson for a four-yard touchdown pass in the final second of the half to make it a one-possession game.

Chippewas kicker Andrew Aguila kicked a 30-yard field goal early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 42-38.

Three minutes later, they took their first lead on a 17-yard touchdown run by Justin Hoskins.

But the Eagles would not give in, as Terrence Blevins scored on a pair of one- yard touchdown runs in the same quarter to reclaim the lead for EMU.

CMU made it a 56-52 game on a 38-yard touchdown run by Sneed with 13:56 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Chippewas could draw no closer.

EMU converted 13-of-18 third downs in the game and accumulated 616 yards of total offense.
