Arkansas State (6-5) At Troy (7-4)

GAME NOTES: With the Sun Belt Conference's automatic bowl berth on the line, the Troy Trojans will host the Arkansas State Red Wolves this Saturday evening at the Movie Gallery Stadium. The Red Wolves gained bowl eligibility with a 33-28 victory over North Texas this past Saturday. It was the second straight win for ASU, which is now 4-2 in league action. This is the third year in the last four that the Red Wolves have become bowl eligible, and with a win in this game the team will tally its most victories since the 1987 campaign. As for the Trojans, they have won five of their last seven games, including a 48-3 victory UL-Lafayette on November 22nd. Troy has been perfect at home thus far, winning all four of its matchups at the Movie Gallery Stadium. With respect to the all-time series, the Red Wolves have won five of the seven meetings, including three in a row.

The Red Wolves have relied heavily on their rushing attack throughout the season as the team is currently churning out 207.3 rushing ypg on 5.3 ypc. Overall Arkansas State is producing 404.9 total ypg, and that has led 28.6 ppg. Reggie Arnold and Derek Lawson have been a dangerous tandem out of the backfield, as Arnold has rushed for 991 yards and seven scores, while Lawson has posted 670 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Corey Leonard, who has rushed for 467 yards, has also thrown for 2,175 yards and 16 scores against just six interceptions. In the team's recent victory over North Texas the Red Wolves used a heavy dose of its ground game, rushing for 188 yards on 4.2 ypc. Arnold paced the team with 101 yards and two TDs, while Leonard added 49 rushing yards and one score. Leonard also threw for 205 yards and one touchdown in the win.

Defensively the Red Wolves have been just an average unit, holding teams to 336.5 total ypg, and 22.7 ppg. ASU has done a commendable job against the run, limiting teams to just 122.4 rushing ypg on 3.6 ypc. Surprisingly the Red Wolves have been able to forced 24 turnovers on the season, and have also pressured the quarterback, recording 26 sacks on the year. In the win over North Texas the Red Wolves put forth a strong performance, holding the Mean Green to just 327 total yards, including just 110 rushing yards on 3.5 ypc. However, three of North Texas' touchdowns did come on the ground. Arkansas State also forced three turnovers in the win and was led by Ben Owens, who tallied 13 tackles.

The Trojans have one of the more balanced attacks in the conference, and head into this matchup with 429.2 total ypg. The team is being paced by DuJuan Harris on the ground, rushing for 954 yards and nine touchdowns. Levi Brown has been mediocre under center for the Trojans, throwing for just 1,594 since taking over as the quarterback, and has 11 touchdowns against three interceptions. Jerrel Jernigan has been the main target throughout the year, as the wideout has hauled in 65 passes for 734 yards and five TDs. In the team's recent victory over UL-Lafayette, the Trojans relied heavily on its ground attack, which gashed the Cajuns' front line for 392 yards and four scores. Harris rumbled for an impressive 235 yards and two touchdowns, while Kennard Burton added 66 yards and one score.

Not to be overlooked is the performance of the Troy defensive unit, which is limiting the opposition to just 318.5 total ypg, and 21.6 ppg. The team has done a tremendous job against the pass, holding opponents to just 181.2 ypg through the air, while collecting 19 interceptions. Overall the defense has forced 25 turnovers, and has also done a terrific job getting to the quarterback, racking up 31 sacks thus far. In the 48-3 victory over UL- Lafayette, the defense was once again on top of its game, limiting the Cajuns to just 248 total yards, including just 72 yards through the air. Troy grabbed two turnovers, and also recorded four sacks in the win. Bear Woods led the defense with 11 tackles and also grabbed two TFLs, while Tavares Williams and Sherrod Martin collected seven tackles apiece.

The Red Wolves have a dangerous ground attack, but the Trojans are the most complete team in this conference, and come into this matchup looking for revenge against Arkansas State. Look for Troy to put forth an all-around solid effort en route to a huge win.
