NCAA Game Summary - Arizona State At Washington

(Sports Network) - Rudy Carpenter threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a convincing, 39-19 victory over the Washington Huskies in a Pac-10 battle at Husky Stadium.

Michael Jones was the main target down field for ASU (3-6, 2-4 Pac-10), grabbing 11 passes for 146 yards and two scores. Keegan Herring paced the ground game for the Sun Devils, rushing for 144 yards and one TD on 6.5 ypc.

As for the Huskies (0-9, 0-6), they were atrocious offensively, totaling just 279 yards, while also committing three turnovers. Ronnie Fouch completed just 13-of-40 passes for 192 yards in the loss. Fouch, who did catch a touchdown in the contest, was intercepted twice and sacked four times.

The Huskies took a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter when Ryan Perkins nailed a 34-yard field goal.

The Sun Devils answered back with a field goal of their own, as Thomas Weber booted a 34-yard kick.

Arizona State took a 10-3 lead early in the second quarter when Troy Nolan returned a fumble 44 yards for a touchdown.

The Huskies responded with a six-yard scoring strike from Cody Bruns to Fouch, and then added a 38-yard field goal by Perkins to take a 13-10 advantage.

However, in the final 92 seconds of the first half Weber nailed a 37 and 29 yard field goal to give the Sun Devils a 16-13 edge at the break.

Washington tied the score at 16 apiece early in the third frame when Perkins connected on a 21-yard kick.

Perkins struck again midway through the third quarter, as the kicker booted a 20-yard field goal, giving the Huskies a small, 19-16 lead.

ASU regained the lead late in the frame when Carpenter connected with Jones on a six-yard strike.

The Sun Devils pushed their lead to 30-19 early in the final quarter when Carpenter hit Jones again, this time for a two-yard touchdown pass.

A 29-yard touchdown scamper by Herring midway through the final frame pushed the Sun Devils' lead to 37-19.

Less than a minute later the Sun Devils added a safety, which was the final tally of the contest, giving ASU a nine-point win.
