GAME NOTES: Tom Amstutz will coach his final game at Toledo this Friday afternoon when his Rockets host the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid-American Conference battle at the Glass Bowl. The last time BGSU was on the field the team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end with a tough, 40-34 overtime loss to Buffalo. The loss dropped Bowling Green to just 3-4 in league action. The Falcons have just five wins on the season, but four of those victories have come on the road. As for the Rockets, they will be closing the chapter on a forgettable season, as the team has dropped eight of its 11 games thus far. As mentioned earlier, this will be the last game for coach Amstutz, who will remain with Toledo, but as part of the alumni office. In eight seasons on the sideline, Amstutz posted an impressive 58-40 ledger. In regard to the all-time series, the Falcons have a 37-31-4 edge over Toledo.

The Falcons have been mediocre at best on offense this season, as the team is averaging just 343.9 total ypg, and that has led to 26.7 ppg. Quarterback Tyler Sheehan has been the main source of production for this squad, as the signal caller has completed 67.3 percent of his throws for 2,369 yards. Sheehan has thrown 17 touchdowns on the season, and has rushed for another seven scores, while throwing only eight interceptions. In the team's recent loss to Buffalo, it was Sheehan who did most of the work for BGSU, as the quarterback threw for 240 yards and one score, while rushing for another 70 yards and two more touchdowns. However, the quarterback did toss an interception and was sacked three times.

On the other side of the football the Falcons have had trouble trying to stop the run, as the opposition is pounding BGSU for 165.6 ypg, and out of the 34 touchdowns allowed by the Falcons, 21 have come on the ground. Overall this defense is allowing 356.8 total ypg and that has led to 24.4 ppg. Bowling Green has also struggled to make big plays, forcing just 18 turnovers, while collecting only 20 sacks. In the recent loss to Buffalo the defense was abused for 371 total yards, but surprisingly the majority of the damage was done by the pass, as BGSU was torched for 297 yards and three scores through the air. Jamal Brown paced the team with 11 tackles in the loss, while P.J. Mahone added 10 stops for BGSU.

The Rockets have enjoyed limited success on offense this season, as the team is currently producing just 346.6 total ypg, and that has led to just 23.5 ppg. Morgan Williams and DaJuane Collins have formed a nice tandem in the backfield, as Williams has rushed for 857 yards and six scores, while Collins has rumbled for 676 yards and five TDs. Not to be overlooked is the play of Aaron Opelt, as the quarterback has completed 61.2 percent of his throws for 2,109 yards and 12 scores against five interceptions. In the team's recent matchup against Miami-Ohio, the Rockets erupted for 377 rushing yards en route to a convincing victory. Williams was sensational in the contest, rumbling for 330 yards and three touchdowns on 11.8 ypc.

Throughout the season the defense for Toledo has been embarrassed time and time again, and is currently surrendering 367.5 total ypg, which has led to 30.8 ppg. Toledo's main problem has come against the run, as opponents are pounding the Rockets for 167.8 rushing yards per matchup. The defense has also been unable to make big plays, forcing just 17 turnovers, while collecting only eight sacks. In the recent matchup against Miami the Rockets put forth a surprising effort, limiting the RedHawks to just 271 total yards, including just 75 yards on 23 carries. Toledo forced four turnovers in the victory and was led by Archie Donald, who racked up 13 tackles.

Neither team has been consistent throughout the season, especially on offense. However, the Falcons have played well on the road this year, and if Sheehan can continue to play at a high-level BGSU could steal another road win.
