Columbia Names Wilson New Head Coach

Columbia University named Norries Wilson as their new head football coach on Monday.

Wilson, the former offensive coordinator at the University of Connecticut, is the 18th head coach in Columbia history.

"Norries Wilson is a dynamic leader with a full complement of leadership, coaching, management and communication skills who will take this program where we want to go," said Columbia director of athletics Dr. M.Dianne Murphy. "We are proud to have coach Wilson on board as the head coach of the Lions."

The University of Minnesota graduate was one of five finalists for the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach in 2004.

His previous stops include North Carolina Central, Livingstone College and Bucknell.

Wilson replaces Bob Shoop who was relieved of his duties after three seasons and a 7-23 record, including a 4-17 mark in conference play.
