Indiana Schools Hope Tourney Road Leads Back To Indy
Purdue, Butler, Notre Dame Hold NCAA Hopes

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three Indiana schools hope their NCAA Tournament run ends close to home, in Indianapolis at the Final Four.Just a couple of weeks ago, Purdue University had dreams of a No. 1 seed, but an injury to Robbie Hummel and a few losses dashed those hopes. The Boilermakers secured a No. 4 seed in the South Regional.Purdue will play a dangerous Siena team on Friday in Spokane, Wash., at about 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Texas A&M/Utah State matchup.Butler University received a No. 5 seed in the West Regional. They'll play UTEP on Thursday in San Jose, Calif., at about 5 p.m., with a the winner taking on either Vanderbilt or Murray State.Notre Dame secured a No. 6 seed in the South Regional. They'll play Old Dominion on Thursday in New Orleans at about 12:25 p.m. The winner will face off against either Baylor or Sam Houston State.In just three weeks, Indianapolis will host the Final Four, three games and a series of events that are expected to bring $40 million to the city, about four times the money that streamed in during the Big Ten Tournament."The month of March, leading into the first week of April is going to be very, very big for Indianapolis in terms of business, as well as the national exposure these events bring to our town," said Indiana Sports Corp. spokesman John Dedman.College hoop fans who filed out of Conseco Fieldhouse at the close of the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday said they hope to be back with their teams for the Final Four."It remains to be seen, but we're certainly better than anyone thought earlier in the season," said Randy Davis, an Ohio State fan. "It's turned into something really amazing."Purdue fans have a long way to travel in the early rounds. While some are concerned about the team's chances, faithful fan Darrell Deig said, "We'll be there for the next level."More than 70,000 college basketball fans are expected to attend the three Final Four games at Lucas Oil Stadium.
