Threat Tinges School Board Fight
Nastiness Increases In Dispute Over Perry Township Superintendent
POSTED: 7:08 am EDT May 15, 2007
INDIANAPOLIS -- The fight over Perry Township's school superintendent is getting nasty as board members talk of threats.Dr. Doug Williams has been on paid administrative leave since November because of conflicts with some newly elected members of the school board. The process is under way to fire Williams outright, but when to do it and how are issues still being decided.
In the meantime, board members who object to Williams' leadership style said they are receiving letters threatening physical harm.Rubie Alexander, a member of the school board, read from one of the letters."We know your addresses and we know how to get things done. You are now messing with the wrong people. This is your first and only (in bold letters and underlined) warning. Change your ways."A group called "Take Back Perry Schools" has been adamant about reinstating Williams, but said none of its members had anything to do with the letter.
