Girl Bites Down On Glass, Not Gummy Bear

Student Spurns Gummy Bears

A candy manufacturer has pulled gummy bears from a California school vending machine after a student said she bit down on shards of glass, not candy.

The glass was found in a package sold in an Inderkum, Calif., high school vending machine. Now, the manufacturer is investigating, reported TV station KCRA.

Jasmine Darden said she was eating a package of gummy bears Tuesday when she said she "felt a bunch of hard stuff."

Jasmine brought the package of gummy bears to her teacher, who confirmed that what she bit into was glass.

Jasmine's mother called the manufacturer, Sconza Candy, to report the incident.

"I thought she may have cut her mouth, or may have swallowed some glass," said Tonya Darden.

A representative for the company, which has been in business for more than 60 years, said they have never had a complaint about glass being in one of their products. They also said there isn't glass anywhere near where the candy is packaged.

As for Jasmine, she's OK, but her days of eating gummy bears may be over.

"They are really good, but I don't want to hurt myself because of it," she said.
