Zionsville Schools To Float Referendum
Proposal Would Add Teachers

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Facing a $2.5 million budget crisis, Zionsville Schools will once again ask voters for help.The school board Wednesday night signed off on putting a referendum on the May ballot.The proposal would reduce class sizes by hiring more teachers.
Currently, eight teaching positions are on the chopping block for the next school year, and the board has already canceled all non-teaching salary increases for the fifth straight yearThe referendum would raise property taxes, although exact figures weren't available Wednesday night.In November 2010, 61 percent of voters shot down a referendum posed by the district, and since then, only eight of 19 school districts have successfully passed a referendum.
