BRITNEY SPEARS

Silverman: No Regrets Over Britney Jokes

Comedian Says She's No Different Than TV Talkers

POSTED: 9:15 am EDT October 4, 2007

It sounds like Britney Spears can forget about getting an apology from comedian Sarah Silverman any time soon following the comedian's riffs about the embattled pop singer at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Silverman told "The View" Wednesday that she has no regrets about skewering Spears at last month's MTV Video Music Awards.

Silverman said that "she's happy with her jokes," which included calling Spears a has-been and her sons "adorable mistakes."

The sharp-tongued comedian said that there is no way she could have ignored Spears' lackluster performance.

She said she didn't say anything different than any late-night talk show hosts said about Spears.

Silverman believes Spears' people needed a scapegoat for the singer's bizarre performance and she was it.

The performance and critical aftermath are among several contributing factors to Spears' downward professional and personal spiral, which hit a new low this week when a judge in Los Angeles Monday granted temporary custody of her and ex-husband Kevin Federline's children to Federline.

Unlike Federline, Spears did not show up at another custody hearing Wednesday. The judge in the case, however, granted Spears visitation rights.
