Jackman's Wife Disappointed Over Series Failure

'Viva' Canceled In U.S., Australia

The fact that Hugh Jackman's new television show "Viva Laughlin" has been thrown to the wolves after only two episodes is troubling to the actor's wife and business partner, Deborra-Lee Furness.

CBS canceled the song-and-dance drama "Viva Laughlin" after just two episodes, and an Australian network yanked it after one. The show followed the rivalry between a new casino owner (Lloyd Owen) and a slick, seasoned competitor (Jackman) in Laughlin, Nev.

In the show, the scenes were tied together by classic rock songs, which the characters would sing along with. It was the first new series on a major network to get the axe this fall.

Furness acknowledged that the musically punctuated formula a huge risk.

"If I'm going to fail, I want to fail spectacularly, and it seems like we did," Furness said.

"Viva Laughlin" was the first project for Seed -- Jackman's Australian production company.

Jackman was slated to only make occasional appearances on the show. Most of the Aussie actor's roles have come on the big screen in such projects as the "X-Men" trilogy, opposite the likes of Halle Berry and "The Prestige" opposite Christian Bale.

Jackman is currently working on the epic drama "Australia" opposite Nicole Kidman. He'll also soon begin work on "Wolverine," which explores the origins of his "X-Men" character.
