Parrotheads Elated, Angered By Ticket Frenzy

Tickets To Buffett Show Sell Out, But Brokers Have Plenty

Parrotheads, otherwise known as Jimmy Buffett fans, in central Indiana are either overjoyed or disappointed Monday.

The majority of tickets to a concert in the Indianapolis area this summer sold out in about 10 minutes Monday morning, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.

Those who still want a ticket for the July 29 show at Verizon Wireless Music Center will have to get on the Internet or visit a broker, such as Circle City Tickets.

Eager fans lined up with cash in hand outside Karma Records, on Indianapolis' northwest side, long before the tickets went on sale at 10 a.m.

There was a computer glitch at that store. By the time the issue was resolved at 10:10 a.m., all lawn seats were sold out and only single seats were left.

Some brokers had tickets before they went on sale. Ticketliquidator.com had seats ranging from $73 to $650 a pop and stubhub.com had VIP seats going for more than $1,000.

Some fans were not too upset by the ticket situation, but others were livid.

Do you think ticket brokers have too much control over concert seats?

"It's business. That's the way the world goes round," said Brian Hand. "You can complain about it or do your best to get them."

"I hate it. It's horrible. It's not fair," said Jennifer Wallace.

The attorney general's office said Indiana does not have a law regulating ticket brokers. As long as they can provide the ticket they advertise, they're not doing anything illegal.

The owner of Circle City Tickets, Renny Harrison, said a large portion of concert seats aren't even up for grabs through Ticketmaster by the time they go on sale. Many are already in the hands of brokers.

"Season ticket holders at Verizon Wireless and people who have partial season tickets call us to sell us tickets for events if they have extra tickets or if they just want to make money on their seats," Harrison said.

Circle City Tickets still has lawn and pavilion seats, but they cost quite a bit more than face value.
