MUNCIE, Ind. -- Muncie may be a long way from Hollywood, but some Ball State University students are getting an up-close look at the making of a feature film with the help of some famous alumni. The film "My Name Is Jerry" follows its flawed namesake as he navigates life in his 40s, producers told 6News' Jennifer Carmack. The feature film is being shot, directed, written and acted all by former Ball State students in the city of their alma mater.
The former Cardinals call it a homecoming of sorts."We've actually joked about that because the first real endeavor in film making we had was our freshman year right here at Ball State," said "Jerry" writer and producer David Hamilton. The star of the film -- Doug Jones -- has found success in Hollywood since graduating from Ball State in 1982. He has dozens of films on his resume, including the recent hit "Hellboy II" and "The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."Still, he said coming back to Muncie and working with eager BSU film students has been a treat."It is truly an emersion project where kids are doing a job where in L.A. people are doing for a full-time living and they're getting that experience right here in Muncie, Ind.," Jones said. "Being a part of that project is just golden for me and makes me feel like I've done something good at the end of the day."The movie is set to wrap up filming in Muncie Aug. 4 with an expected release date sometime in 2009.More information on the film can be found on the film's officials Web site and on Ball State Film program's site.
