Manager Says She's Busy Working On Album

Those hoping to see Britney Spears' shot at redemption following her widely panned performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards will have to wait at least another year.

Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager at Jive Records, quashed the rumors, which were spearheaded by Spears' active promotion of the upcoming awards ceremony.

"Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year's VMAs," Rudolph said in a statement. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."

MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said in June that the network wasn't ruling out giving viewers another dose of Spears at the VMAs. MTV later confirmed they were in talks to have Spears appear in some capacity.

Last year, Spears was slammed by the press and fans for being out of shape at her performance.

At least Spears will be at the VMAs in spirit -- her "Piece of Me" video is up for Video of the Year.

The VMAs will be handed out Sept. 7 in Los Angeles.
