Professor Wrestling: 'Final Resolution' Recap
Sting Risks Gold In 8-Man Tag
POSTED: 11:35 pm EST December 4, 2008
UPDATED: 11:48 pm EST December 7, 2008
Listen up!Class is in session.Total Nonstop Action wrestling iwas in pay-per-view mode this past Sunday night, with its "Final Resolution" show. Did Sting lose his TNA title? Was Kurt Angle shown the door? The answers are below, but first, the rest of the card:
TNA Women's Championship Match: Awesome Kong (c) vs. Christy Hemme
What Should Happen: It's the monstrous Kong versus the former Playboy centerfold Hemme, who can barely wrestle. Uh, Kong should win.
What Will Happen: A no-brainer. Kong will retain.
What Did Happen Kong retained after she got disqualified.
Feast Or Fired Match
What Should Happen: Fourteen TNA competitors try to capture four suitcases strapped onto the ringposts. Three suitcases contain contracts for championship matches. One contains a pink slip. If it were up to me, I'd have Petey Williams win the TNA heavyweight championship suitcase. Shark Boy should win the X-Division title prize. The Motor City Machineguns should win the tag title shot. Cute Kip should win the pink slip.
What Will Happen: Williams, Shark Boy, MCM and Kip will go home with the suitcases outlined above. One match, four bold guesses. That's why I'm me, and you're you.
What Did Happen I was skunked on this one. Curry Man, Jay Lethal, Homicide and Hernandez ended up with the suitcases. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get the rest of the matches correct.
TNA X-Division Championship Match: Sheik Abdul Bashir (c) vs. Eric Young
What Should Happen: Bashir (the former Daivari in WWE) is a dandy bad guy, but Young is better in his new persona as a serious babyface. He was a goof for the longest time, and his act was very stale. Young is much easier to watch now, and I think he should take this title from Bashir.
What Will Happen: But it won't happen. Bashir retains.
What Did Happen Young got the job done, pinning Bashir.
TNA Tag Team Championship Match: Beer Money Inc. (c) vs. Matt Morgan and Abyss
What Should Happen: Beer Money -- Robert Roode and James Storm -- are like those jocks in high school you couldn't stand. Loudmouth losers. I guess that's why they're such a good heel team, but the skits they do backstage are always so lame. Abyss overacts, too. So I guess what I'm saying is that the only performer I wish success upon is Morgan. But a title change wouldn't feel right here. Abyss and Morgan won't be be together that long, so I'd keep the straps on the boring heels for a while longer.
What Will Happen: Beer Money will find a way to win.
What Did Happen Beer Money -- with the help of a pair of brass knuckles -- won the match, and retained their belts.
Challenge Match: Kurt Angle vs. Rhino
What Should Happen: If Angle wins, he gets to take on his current arch-nemesis, TNA founder Jeff Jarrett. If Angle loses, he has to quit the promotion. That isn't going to happen, kids, as Angle is doing a great job as TNA's top out-of-control heel. He should win this easily.
What Will Happen: Bet the farm on Angle.
What Did Happen Angle, with a bit of help from Al Snow, beat Rhino.
TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sting (c), Booker T, Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner vs. A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe and Team 3D
What Should Happen: It's the Main Event Mafia versus TNA's Frontline. Here, if Sting's team loses, Styles wins his title belt. It's a weird way to put a title on the line, but then again, this is TNA -- where booking decisions are often nonsensical. What should happen? I'll go for a double-cross by Team 3D, who always wanted to be aligned with MEM anyway. Don't get me wrong. I like the Mafia angle, but I'm not too thrilled with the rules of this particular match.
What Will Happen: This is a tough one to predict, but I'll go with Sting retaining. Look for Booker T to get the winning pin.
What Did Happen Sting pinned Samoa Joe to retain his belt.
That'll do it. For the night, I had four right and just two wrong -- which, as usual, is fanstastic. But then again, it's expected. Need more great stuff? Then check out "Old School, New School." That's the snazzy podcast offered here every week, featuring Dr. Mike Lano, George Schire and yours truly. This time around, we gab about Hulk Hogan, Mickey Rourke and great gifts to give the wrestling nut in your life. It's EPISODE 94, and you can download it RIGHT HERE..It's time to slowly put that half-eaten apple on my desk -- and scram. This class is … dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting, hailing from Parts Unknown.
