INDIANAPOLIS -- The fate of an east side home at the center of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is now in the hands of the show's design team.

The keys to the home in the 2300 block of Oxford Street were turned over to show host Ty Pennington just after 5:30 p.m. Friday, 6News' Ericka Flye reported.

Pennington and the team of designers have less than 12 hours to transform the inside of the home, as well as a neighboring library, before the big reveal scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.

Bernard McFarland -- an Indianapolis Public Schools employee -- and his three sons were surprised by the crew of the ABC show last Saturday and then whisked away to Paris for a week-long vacation.

This Saturday will be the first time they've seen their home and their neighborhood, which thousands of volunteers have worked around the clock to transform this week.

The makeover has morphed into a community-wide effort, with companies and individuals pitching in to demolish abandoned houses, paint neighboring homes and landscape areas in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood.

The library built by the show will also serve the community, as well as the former Indianapolis Public School No. 37 building, which will be reopened as a place for community events.

Carmel-based Estridge Homes, which has headed up the build, also announced Friday it would cover the remaining amount of the McFarland's mortgage. Money previously raised to cover the cost will now be devoted to helping the neighborhood.

The home itself passed a city inspection on Friday.

The "move that bus" reveal moment is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday but could be subject to change. Free shuttles will take spectators to the site from the Indiana State Fairgrounds beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
