KOKOMO, Ind. -- It's only been six months since ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" came to central Indiana to build a new home for a family on Indianapolis' east side and transform the neighborhood.Later this month, the show is coming back, and another Hoosier family will get the surprise of a lifetime. The official announcement is being made on Wednesday. The build will be north of Indianapolis.
Anderson-based Hallmark Homes will construct the home, with cameras watching the process the whole way.Paul Schwinghammer, president of Hallmark Homes, said his company was contacted two weeks ago about doing the build. He could only reveal that the home will be built within a 30-mile radius of Kokomo."A very deserving family – the show receives 3,000 to 5,000 requests per day for families needing new homes, and they've selected this family," said Paul Schwinghammer, president of Hallmark Homes.Schwinghammer said he talked with representatives of Estridge, the Indianapolis homebuilder that did the extreme build in the city, about what to expect."It's an incredible amount of work coordinating all the subcontractors, the volunteers, the suppliers, the vendors, food, materials -- it's nonstop," Schwinghammer said.Hallmark is looking for volunteers to get involved in the project. It set up a Web site to coordinate events and allow people to track the process.A pep rally is scheduled for volunteers on Oct. 16. The family will find out when they get a knock on the door on Oct. 21.Home demolition is set for the following day, and the new home will be revealed on Oct. 27.
