His character may be naïve, but as a 19-year-old actor in his break-out role, Logan Huffman is anything but.

The Indianapolis native, who is home for the holiday, told 6News' Trisha Shepherd that the role of Tyler Evans on the ABC alien thriller "V" is a departure from what he's used to.

"I've always played weirdos and creeps, and this character happens to be a nice, leading man who happens to be at a crossroads right now and needs to find himself," Huffman said.

Evans is the 17-year-old son of main character Erica Evans, played by "Lost's" Elizabeth's Mitchell, an FBI agent who is skeptical when aliens who call themselves the Visitors, or the V's, arrive on earth.

But Huffman's character is captivated by the V's, and soon gets trapped in the underworld of their seemingly glossy utopia.

"There's nothing more powerful than a young man with ambition, and this young man has ambition, that's fun to play," he said. "I have a call as he has a call."

That call for Huffman has always been acting.

At 16, he restored his first car -- a '56 Mercury -- and then sold it to pay for acting lessons, eventually enrolling in the Gattelypoole Acting Intensive hosted at Northern Illinois University, and moving to New York at 17 to pursue his dreams.

A few months later, he got a small part in "Lymelife," the critically acclaimed indie film starring Emma Roberts, followed soon after by a lead part in Rosie O'Donnell's movie of the week, "America."

During his break from shooting "V" in Vancouver, Huffman shared his experiences with some young theater students in Fishers, encouraging them to stay proud of their Hoosier roots.

"I'm from Indiana, and not a lot of people come out of Indiana, and I want the world to know the whole world's not New York or (Los Angeles) -- there's a whole other country inside," he said.

Huffman said he's concentrating now on landing film roles, while continuing to hone his character on "V."

The show returns to ABC and RTV6 early next year.
