LOS ANGELES -- A split decision has been made for the "Million Dollar Baby" and her husband.

Two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank and actor Chad Lowe have separated after more than eight years of marriage, according to Swank's publicist, Troy Nankin.

"Hilary and Chad have decided to separate but they are hopeful they will be able to get through this tough time," Nankin said in a statement.

The couple has no children.

Swank, 31, famously forgot to thank a tearful Lowe while accepting her best actress Oscar in 2000 for "Boys Don't Cry."

She did, however, thank Lowe as she accepted her Best Actress Oscar for "Million Dollar Baby" last year.

Lowe, 37, won an Emmy Award in 1993 for the series "Life Goes On." He is also the brother of actor Rob Lowe.

In addition to "Million Dollar Baby" and "Boys Don't Cry," Swank has starred in such films as "The Next Karate Kid" and "Insomnia." She will next star in the crime thriller "The Black Dahlia."
