Kevin Costner wins family-friendly rating for Black and White

Movie star KEVIN COSTNER has successfully challenged bosses at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to overturn a restrictive R rating for his new drama BLACK AND WHITE.

The actor/producer reunited with his Upside of Anger director Mike Binder for the film, in which he stars as a man fighting for custody of his biracial granddaughter.

The picture was slapped with an R classification, which prevents children under the age of 17 from seeing the film without an adult, due to a brief scene featuring strong language, but Costner appealed the ruling and he emerged victorious on Thursday (26Jun14), when officials at the MPAA's Classification and Rating Appeals Board lowered the rating to a family-friendly PG-13.

The movie also stars fellow Oscar winner Octavia Spencer.
