A Catholic priest who helped inspire MEL GIBSON on the set of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST has died at the age of 99.
Father Jean-Marie Charles-Roux became involved with the controversial movie when Gibson contacted him in Rome, Italy prior to the shoot, and he agreed to celebrate a Tridentine Mass every day for the Lethal Weapon star and his cast.
Gibson attended each Mass, which was held in a makeshift chapel at the Cinecitta Studios, where the movie was filmed. Several crew members also attended and some even converted to Catholicism as a result.
Charles-Roux passed away at his home in Rome on 7 August (14).
