A revealing photo in Indianapolis' alternative newspaper is raising some eyebrows.

The latest issue of NUVO, available for free on area newsstands, is devoted to sex in the Hoosier state and includes a full-frontal photo of Mr. Nude America in his birthday suit.

The contest is held every year at a nudist colony in Roselawn.

The photo was featured in an art show at Indiana University's Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction.

NUVO Web editor Laura McPhee said the picture has prompted a few complaint calls, but stressed that this isn't the first time the paper has run provocative photos that have been featured in art exhibits.

In the last month, NUVO has shown two photos of nude women, but McPhee said no one called to complain.

Some Hoosiers had mixed reviews after seeing the issue.

"I have children, and I think anybody can just pick that up and look at it. I don't think that's acceptable. But, for a change, it's not women being exposed," Jeff Takach said. "If (people) don't like it, they shouldn't look at it. It's pretty much that simple."

"For public news, that's too much. I don't even want to see," another Hoosier said.

McPhee said the purpose of the issue is to educate, not offend. She said anyone who sees the cover should know it's not suitable for children.
