Pharrell Williams saddened by Iranian arrests over Happy video

PHARRELL WILLIAMS has criticized Iranian authorities after several music fans were arrested for starring in a video tribute to his hit song HAPPY.

A clip of three men and three women dancing to the popular track on the streets and rooftops of Tehran was uploaded to YouTube.com last month (Apr14).

Police in the conservative country launched an investigation and have allegedly detained a number of people in connection with the making of the video.

Tehran Police chief Hossein Sajedinia said, "After a vulgar clip which hurt public chastity was released in cyberspace, police decided to identify those involved in making that clip."

After hearing of the arrests, Williams took to his Facebook.com page to denounce the move, writing, "It is beyond sad that these kids were arrested for trying to spread happiness."
