Robert Downey, Jr.: 'My son has all the support he needs following his drug arrest'

Actor ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. is throwing his support behind his son following the 20 year old's cocaine possession arrest.

Indio Downey, whose mother is the Hollywood star's ex-wife Deborah Falconer, has been charged with suspicion of drug possession following a traffic stop on Sunday (29Jun14) in West Hollywood, California.

On Monday (30Jun14), Indio was released on $10,250 bail and the Iron Man star has now spoken out publicly for the first time since his son's arrest, insisting he'll have all the support he needs while facing a difficult ordeal.

A statement from Downey, Jr. reads: "Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being.

"We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

The movie star spent years battling drug problems after finding fame in Hollywood in the 1980s. He later turned his life around and made a successful career comeback.
