AVON, Ind. -- A coffee shop that opened amid controversy earlier this year has closed its doors.
The Bad Ass Coffee Co. in Avon shut down this week -- only eight months after it opened. The owners' reasons for the closure weren't released, RTV6 reported.
Many residents had protested the store's opening because of its sign, which had "Bad Ass" in large red letters. Some said the sign was offensive and something that children shouldn't see.Around 1,000 people signed a petition to remove the sign on the shop, located in a strip center on Indiana 36. However, the Avon zoning board voted in January that the sign could stay.
