Animals Get In On Zoo Recycling Efforts

INDIANAPOLIS -- Even the animals are getting in on efforts to go "green" at the Indianapolis Zoo.The zoo's curious meerkats dug through old phone books Thursday in search of tasty bugs to highlight a new partnership with AT&T.More: Going Green Section
On Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., visitors are encouraged to bring in outdated phone books to receive $1 off zoo admission in conjunction with the AT&T Real Yellow Pages Project ReDirectory program.The phone book recycling drive is part of a larger push across the city involving Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and four local schools.The schools -- Cold Spring Academy, Craig Middle School, Greenbrier Elementary School and Southport High School -- will get $50 per ton of phone books collected at special bins in their parking lots, and will get an additional $250 if they collect the most outdated books by Dec. 6.Several recycling collection bins for phone books will also be available until Dec.15 at seven Indianapolis-area locations:Broad Ripple Park, 450 Broad Ripple Ave. Circle City Recycling, 3617 Southeastern Ave. Langsdale Recycling, 832 Langsdale Ave. Perry Park, 425 E. Stop 11 Road Product Development Corp Warehouse, 3000 S. Shelby St. Republic Services -- 96th Street Transfer Station, 4935 Robison Road Sahm Park, 6801 E. 91st St. The zoo promotion is good through Friday on up to four admission tickets.
