In its continuing effort to be bike-friendly, the city of Indianapolis has installed dozens of new bike racks downtown.

Fifty-four racks have been placed in areas city officials deemed had the most bicycle traffic:

  • Two racks in front of the City Cafe at Pennsylvania and Michigan streets
  • Three racks at MoJo's at Senate Boulevard and Michigan Street
  • Five racks in front of the Plasma Center at Capitol Avenue and Michigan Street
  • Five racks in front of Volunteers of America at 611 N. Capitol Ave.
  • Seven racks at Wheeler Mission at Delaware and New York streets
  • Eight racks near the Indiana War Memorial in the 400 block of Pennsylvania Street
  • Ten racks on the south side of the City Market in four locations
  • Fourteen racks on the south side of the City-County Building in two locations
  • "We're working to make Indianapolis a truly bicycle-friendly city," Mayor Greg Ballard said in a release. "In addition to constructing miles of new on-street bike lanes in Indianapolis, the addition of new bike racks gives cyclists an opportunity to safely and properly secure their bikes while enjoying downtown businesses and attractions."

In October, Indianapolis was named a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by The League of American Bicyclists.
