Young mothers in Hendricks County have a new place to turn for help, thanks to a local nurse who knows the challenges of being a teenage mom.

Hope House of Indiana was the brainchild of Jody Liming -- herself a mother at 17 -- who now works as a nurse at Hendricks Regional Health.

The home, in rural Hendricks County, is a faith-based safe haven for teens who are pregnant or who have babies, where they can live and learn parenting and life skills, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported.

"We're able to help them finish their education and go into a secondary education, whether it's a two-year degree or just some kind of career path," Liming said. "Once they finish the program and get out there, they can take care of themselves and their children and build a foundation with Christ."

Jessica Deruby, a teenage mother who's expecting again, moved into Hope House when the doors opened in May. She said the staff there has helped get her life on track.

"I've devoted my life to Christ. I've gotten my GED. I enrolled in college, I started yesterday, and I'm on my way to a nursing degree. I think I've become a better mother," she said.

Liming said there are already plans to expand the home. She hopes to build another house right next door where more teenage mothers and their children can live.
