Some office cleaning crews are putting in extra hours as employers try to thwart the spread of the H1N1 flu.

Stephanie Dunn cleans the Guitar Center warehouse once a day. Since the H1N1 outbreak, she said she's even more particular with her routine.

"Just trying to be more precise about where I spray; making sure that I wipe really well and everything," she told 6News' Sarah Cornell.

Dunn works for Cleaning Solutions for Business and Industry Inc. The company cleans in 100 office buildings across the state.

Lately, some clients have requested extra cleaning in common areas.

"(They want us to clean) shared pens, telephones, computers, elevators buttons, and microwave buttons; the places a lot of people touch," said manager Daniel Anger.

Clients are also getting more particular about what kinds of cleaning solutions are used to ensure disinfectants kill all germs, including those that cause H1N1.

Cleaning Solutions uses Green Solution, a disinfectants that does kill germs that cause the flu. But no matter how strong the product, Anger said there's only one way to ensure that it's doing the job.

"The more disinfecting the better, so daily disinfecting would be best," he said.

Most cleaning companies don't disinfect personal items on desks like computers and phones. Anger encourages employees to wipe down those items and with disinfecting wipes everyday.
