INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis radio host Greg Garrison is encouraging listeners to get vaccinated against the H1N1 flu after a death in his family.

Garrison's son-in-law, Pete Barajas, 37, died Saturday from complications related to the illness, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported.

Barajas had been hospitalized for a month after the H1N1 exacerbated former bronchial problems he'd suffered as a child, Garrison said.

Barajas had not been vaccinated against the flu, but Garrison said he would be getting a shot as soon as he can, and encouraged others to do the same.

"H1N1 is a very opportunistic disease if people have a marker, as in my son-in-law with a history of bronchial problems as a kid, and me, I've had pneumonia a half-dozen times in my life," he said." Whenever I can find a shot I'm going to take one, though I'll be 62 in January."

Barajas leaves behind a wife -- who is expecting the couple's third child in January -- and two children.

Garrison hosts the conservative "Garrison Show" weekday mornings on WIBC, and is also a practicing attorney.
