Hundreds of Indiana University students, staff and faculty are lining up to get H1N1 flu vaccines now available on campus.

Despite the winter break, 300 people have gotten their shots so far this week at the IU Health Center, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.

During the fall semester there were 1,700 confirmed cases of H1N1 on the Bloomington campus.

Until this week, only those in the high-risk groups were offered the vaccine, but it's now being made available to everyone.

"We're concerned about it coming back again," said Dr. Hugh Jessop, executive director of the IU Health Center. "That's why we are pushing the vaccine now that the (Centers For Disease Control and Prevention) has lifted the thing that only priority people can get it."

Some students said the shot was made available at the perfect time.

"In a couple of weeks, my father and I are going over to Pakistan to see my family, and it is required to go overseas," said freshman Nadir Noon, 18.

"It is free for all of the students, and I have a daughter at home. I thought it was best for my family," said graduate student Yan Huang, 26.

The campus health center will be open on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., and then will be closed on Thursday and Friday. It will reopen on Monday.
