Health Dept. Pleads With Hoosiers To Get H1N1 Shots
More Free Clinics Offered
POSTED: 12:48 pm EST January 26, 2010
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Marion County Health Department is again stressing the importance of H1N1 vaccinations in a series of smaller public clinics.Health officials hope to vaccinate as many people as possible before an expected third round of the flu hits, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.A clinic began Tuesday afternoon at the Marion County Health Department's northwest district office at 6940 N. Michigan Road.
Just 50 doses were being offered at the small clinic, but not all 50 were given out at a small clinic on Indianapolis' south side on Monday.Health officials are concerned that Hoosiers are complacent about getting vaccinated or simply have decided they don't want a flu shot or mist.Another mass clinic is planned for Saturday at Lawrence North High School, and smaller clinics will be held as demand warrants during the week."We know there is going to be a third wave of disease," said John Althardt, of MCHD. "It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. So, right now, we encourage people to go get their vaccine."Health officials said they don't want the flu to linger into summer like it did last year.MCHD estimated that 40 percent of public school children received at least the first round of vaccine. They aren't sure how many adults have been vaccinated because doses were distributed to many clinics and doctor's offices.More: Find A Flu Clinic
