New Laser Therapy Helps Regrow Hair
Procedure Stimulates Cell Metabolism, Company Says

BINGHAM FARMS, Mich. -- Millions of people suffer with some sort of hair loss. It may be caused by a medical condition, genetics, or excessive use of hair-coloring products or braiding.
There are products, transplants and wigs to help give people a full head of hair, but now a new therapy is zapping hair back into growing by helping to stimulate cell metabolism and increase blood flow to the scalp.
Betty Thomas, 56, tried everything to stop her hair from thinning, but nothing worked.
"About two years ago, I noticed I was thinning in the front. I really didn't want to lose all my hair," Thomas said.
Thomas decided to try laser hair therapy at Images International in Bingham Farms, Mich.
"Laser therapy for hair regrowth will stimulate growth and stop your hair from thinning," said Mark Sperkoski, general manager of Images International.
The customer sits under a machine, which is similar to a hair dryer at the beauty parlor. The laser delivers light energy to the head and helps increase the blood flow to the scalp. The light also stimulates cell metabolism and causes damaged cells to be repaired.
"It's drawing everything to the surface -- blood, secretion, oils -- which are going to coat the cuticle," said Sperkoski.
After 15 minutes, the session is complete and the hair has already begun its work to regrow.
Within months, and even sometimes just a few weeks, people will notice new hair growing where no hair was growing before. Another benefit is that, unlike other hair products or wigs, the hair is there to stay.
The laser can be used by anyone if the person has hair follicles.
A machine will test the scalp by showing technicians what is underneath the first layer of skin on the scalp to make sure there are hair follicles.
"If they have no follicles underneath that layer of skin, then the laser would obviously not work for them," said Sperkoski.
Thomas is pleased with the results. In just a few weeks of using the laser, she said the treatment is working.
"Anyone who is concerned about their hair should try it and see if it works for them. It worked for me," Thomas said. "It's quite amazing."
Sperkoski said the procedure is painless.
"It does work, and the results in the long run should outweigh any reservations you may have," said Sperkoski.
The cost of the procedure begins at around $1,300 and goes up, depending on the severity of the hair loss.
If you're interested a treatment, Images International offers a consultation and a free scalp analysis. The company has locations in Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Lansing, Mich., and Toledo, Ohio.
According to its Web site, the company will soon open shop in New Orleans, San Antonio, Minneapolis, Nashville, Tenn., and Austin, Texas.
