Study: Today's Kids At Greater Risk For Wrist Fractures

Researchers with the Mayo Clinic say the risk for wrist fractures in children increased 42 percent over the past 30 years. The researchers, who also noted the number of fractures rose over the same period, now are trying to determine the reasons for the increase. Possible reasons include high-risk sports, weight, and calcium deficiency, Staying Healthy's Stacia Matthews reported.
More children are overweight today than 30 years ago. Weight could play a factor in fractures risk because it adds stress on growing bones, Matthews reported.
