A new laser treatment offers people a virtually painless way to get rid of varicose veins, Staying Healthy's Stacia Matthews reported Monday.

To destroy varicose veins in the legs, doctors at the Vein Clinics of America make a small puncture in the thigh and, using an ultrasound, guide a laser fiber into the body. The laser is used to eliminate the diseased veins.

People who undergo the procedure can recover faster and endure less post-operative pain than those who go through traditional surgery, Matthews reported.
