Researchers say a diet high in protein from low-fat foods can help people build muscle and trim body fat.The lean protein method has become a new dieting craze. Researchers say those taking this approach should make high-protein foods account for about a third of their daily calories.Qualifying foods include fish, chicken, lean meat, low-fat dairy, beans and nuts, RTV6's Stacia Matthews reported.
"Protein helps suppress a hormone called insulin, and insulin is a fat-storing hormone," personal trainer Jody Slaughter said.Experts say the more protein one eats, the fuller one will feel. Therefore, one won't need to eat as much."In studies where people were given the option of a high-protein diet and a not-so-high-protein diet, the ones that had more protein seemed to be satisfied longer," said Robin Stahl, of Community Health Network.
