A new, two-step treatment can destroy superficial skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and actinic keratosis, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported Thursday. The Levulan treatment starts with the application of an acid solution to the cancerous area. The acid is left to soak into the skin for about an hour. Then, intense pulses of light are used to activate the acid, destroying lesions without damaging the skin.
Treated areas cannot be exposed to light for a few days.
