INDIANAPOLIS -- There is some new hope for the more than 29 million people who suffer from migraine headaches. Two treatments are showing promise in knocking out the debilitating headaches.A simple whiff of carbon dioxide, from a nasal spray is one possible solution that researchers are looking into.
Trexima, a combination of Imitrex, a migraine medicine already on the market, and the anti-inflammatory drug Naproxen, can provide a one-two punch to a migraine headache. That concoction is already in the hands of federal regulators."That's in phase-three trials and theoretically going to be here before the end of the year," said Dr. Andrea Haller of Community Health Network.Doctors don't know why, but women are three times more likely to get migraines than men are. Some women get warning signals before the onset of the headache, but others don't.Migraines, which sometimes also include nausea and sensitivity to light and sound, can linger for days.
